Turkey’s coastguard said it had rescued 68 migrants from two rubber boats that had drifted off the coast of Izmir after suffering engine failure.
In a statement on its website, the Coast Guard Command reported that one boat carrying 38 people, including three children, was found drifting near Çeşme after issuing a call for help. A patrol vessel was dispatched and the migrants were brought to safety.
A second boat was located off Dikili, also disabled by engine problems. Coastguard teams intercepted the vessel and rescued 30 people.
Officials said all of the migrants were taken ashore and handed over to the provincial migration authority for processing.
