Cyprus’ justice minister visited the Akrotiri area on Thursday to meet local officials and review precautionary measures in place as regional tensions in the Eastern Mediterranean continue to evolve, the ministry said.

Justice and Public Order Minister Kostas Fytiris met with the mayor of Kourion, the deputy mayor of Akrotiri, the civilian administrator of the British Bases and the deputy police chief of the Akrotiri base. The discussions focused on the current situation and coordination among authorities, according to the statement.

Fytiris was briefed on steps taken in the area and on ongoing actions aimed at preventive management of potential risks. He said the government’s goal is a swift return to normal conditions and urged calm and responsible behavior from the public.

He added that state services remain in constant coordination and readiness, stressing that the measures being implemented are precautionary and aimed at safeguarding public safety.

Fytiris said the government is closely monitoring developments in the wider region and will continue taking necessary steps to protect citizens, calling public safety a non‑negotiable priority.
