An exhibition titled “Beauty in Question: thinking through and beyond form” opened Saturday in Berlin as part of Cyprus’ cultural program for its 2026 EU Council Presidency, the presidency secretariat said.
Deputy Culture Minister Vasiliki Kassianidou inaugurated the show, which is hosted at the Andreas Murkudis Project Space and will run until April 18.
Curated by Savvas Christodoulides and Pavlina Paraskevaïdou, the exhibition brings together contemporary Cypriot artists whose work reflects on how beauty is perceived, constructed and challenged.
Featuring photography, sculpture, installations, video and sound pieces, the exhibition examines the tension between beauty and ugliness, inviting artists to “articulate a truth that lies in the space between the two,” organizers said.
Many of the participating artists have previously worked in Berlin through residencies, exhibitions or other cultural programs.
Their selection, the announcement noted, reflects both the quality of their work and their role in strengthening cultural ties between Cyprus and one of Europe’s major artistic hubs.
In her remarks, Kassianidou said Cyprus has long served as Europe’s eastern frontier and a bridge to the wider region, adding that the presidency offers an opportunity to showcase the island’s cultural heritage and contemporary creativity across Europe.
The exhibition is open Wednesday to Saturday from noon to 6 p.m. at Potsdamer Str. 77 in Berlin.
