Energy Minister Michalis Damianou travels to Cairo later, where he will join President Nikos Christodoulides for meetings on the sidelines of the EGYPES 2026 energy exhibition and conference.
On Monday, in the presence of Christodoulides and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el‑Sisi, Damianou is set to sign a Framework Agreement with Egypt’s Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Karim Badawi. The deal will outline cooperation on developing natural‑gas discoveries in Cyprus’ Exclusive Economic Zone, including the Cronos and Aphrodite fields.
Damianou will later accompany Christodoulides to a meeting with TotalEnergies CEO Patrick Pouyanné.
During EGYPES 2026, the minister will also take part in a ministerial roundtable on energy priorities, geopolitical realities and national security, alongside officials from Egypt, Lebanon and the European Commission. He is also scheduled to hold separate meetings with the head of the East Mediterranean Gas Forum, Osama Mobarez, and senior executives from BP, Arcius and ExxonMobil.
Damianou returns to Cyprus on Tuesday.
