Police in Paphos have arrested a 20‑year‑old man following two separate car chases linked to a traffic‑offense investigation, authorities said Tuesday.
The incident began on Monday afternoon when officers pursued a vehicle carrying two people and fired warning shots during the chase.
The car eventually stopped at a roundabout, where an 18‑year‑old passenger was arrested. The driver fled on foot.
Police later located the suspect again, prompting a second pursuit. During the chase, the driver lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a tree.
He tested positive in a narcotest and was taken to Paphos General Hospital for treatment. Police say 28,516 sheep and goats and 1,910 cattle have been culled so far as part of containment measures.
A case against the 20‑year‑old was filed Tuesday before the Paphos District Court
