Police sweep nets eight arrests in overnight crime‑prevention push

Police made eight arrests across Cyprus during intensified overnight patrols aimed at preventing serious crime and boosting public safety.

Offences under investigation include conspiracy to commit a felony, arson, illegal possession of property, public drunkenness, causing a disturbance, assaulting police officers and unlawful stay in the Republic.

Officers stopped 602 vehicles and checked 749 drivers and passengers. Twenty‑two premises were inspected, with four cited for licence violations.

Traffic checks resulted in 369 citations, including 239 for speeding. Seven drivers tested positive for alcohol and two people tested positive in preliminary drug tests. Seven vehicles were seized.

Police said the coordinated operations will continue with increased patrols, targeted checks and rapid response to strengthen public safety and maintain order.
