Police in Limassol arrested a 23‑year‑old man twice on the same day after two separate incidents in which officers were allegedly assaulted, authorities said.

Officers first went to a shop around 8 p.m. on April 14 after receiving information about a man inside the premises who appeared to be intoxicated. The shop owner had gone to check the business after the alarm sounded and found an unknown man inside holding a bottle of alcohol.

When police tried to identify him, the man allegedly attacked a female officer. Additional officers were called and arrested him, though he reportedly resisted, assaulted another officer and threatened police with a broken bottle. After his arrest, he allegedly injured himself by hitting his head with his hands. He was later identified as a 23‑year‑old Limassol resident.

Both the suspect and two officers were taken to Limassol General Hospital. Police said the man refused examination, while the officers received first aid and were discharged.

The man appeared before Limassol District Court the next morning. The case was filed immediately and he was released on conditions pending a May 15 hearing.

Around 5 p.m. the same day, police responded to a call about a man causing a disturbance at a Limassol property. Officers found him pushing tables and chairs, shouting and creating a nuisance. When an officer approached and asked for his details, he allegedly refused, struck the officer with his hands and feet and verbally abused police. He was arrested again after resisting and allegedly assaulting two more officers.

He was later confirmed to be the same 23‑year‑old arrested earlier.

Three officers were treated at Limassol General Hospital and discharged.

The Limassol Minor Offences Department is investigating.
