The Cyprus Agricultural Payments Organisation (CAPO) took part in this year’s Esri User Conference, held in San Diego between July 13 and 17, widely regarded as the most important annual gathering of the global Geographic Information Systems (GIS) community.
CAPO was represented by two officers from its Technical Services Department at the event, which brings together organisations and businesses from around the world to showcase new technologies, best practices and real-world GIS applications.
This year’s conference was held under the theme “GIS – Creating a more intelligent world,” reflecting how geographic information systems are transforming the science of location into shared understanding and coordinated action at the level of communities, businesses and the planet.
The programme featured dozens of presentations, technical sessions, workshops and specialised meetings with Esri technical staff, alongside training sessions for beginners and advanced users and information days hosted by universities. The event also included the UC Expo, drawing a large number of exhibitors showcasing products spanning the full range of GIS-related applications.
Among the areas generating particular interest were the latest developments in artificial intelligence for GIS, particularly its use in automation, prediction and parameterisation, which organisers said are speeding up data readiness and helping organisations obtain high-quality, ready-to-use spatial data with less time and fewer specialised resources.
