Tanker drivers plan to protest outside the presidential palace next Tuesday after the transport minister issued a decree immobilizing 288 fuel‑carrying vehicles that fail to meet ADR safety standards.
Christodoulos Christodoulou, representing the Association of Station Owners, said the minister signed the decree in August 2025 without giving owners time to convert their vehicles, prompting the planned mobilization. He said the association is seeking an extension so operators can comply with the regulation.
The Department of Road Transport maintains that station owners had 17 years to upgrade or replace their vehicles. ADR safety rules were adopted at the EU level in 2008, and officials say operators had until 2025 — when the decree was issued — to meet the standards.
