Helmetless Rider, 30, Killed as Family of Four Narrowly Escapes Head-On Crash

A young man from Larnaca died last night after a head-on collision on the road between Kellia and Troulloi, Cypriot police have confirmed.

Georgios Georgiou, 30, was riding a large-capacity motorcycle shortly before 7.30pm when, under circumstances that remain under investigation, he crossed into the opposite lane and collided head-on with a saloon car carrying a family of four.

Mr Georgiou sustained critical injuries in the impact and was taken to hospital, where he died despite medical efforts to save him.

The occupants of the car — a couple and their two young children — escaped unharmed.

Preliminary police findings indicate that Mr Georgiou was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. The motorcycle he was riding was reportedly registered to another individual.

Investigations into the exact cause of the collision are continuing.
