New U.S. Ambassador John Breslow Presents Credentials to Cyprus President

John Breslow presented his credentials as the new U.S. Ambassador to Cyprus to President Nikos Christodoulides, the U.S. Embassy in Nicosia announced.

Breslow arrived in Nicosia on September 5 to take up his post as Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the United States to the Republic of Cyprus. He was nominated for the position by President Donald J. Trump on October 21, 2025, and his appointment was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on August 7.

The embassy described Breslow as a dedicated philanthropist and active community member with a notable career in business and politics.

Breslow was the owner and chairman of Linweld, Inc., one of the largest producers and distributors of industrial, medical and specialty gases and welding equipment. He is a minority owner of the NHL’s Vegas Golden Knights and Premier League club Bournemouth, and previously served as an alternate member of the NHL’s Board of Governors.

In public service, Breslow served two terms as Nebraska State Auditor and later ran for governor of Nebraska. Earlier in his career, he served as a commissioner on the Lincoln Human Rights Commission in Nebraska.

He has chaired the Madonna Foundation and served on the boards of the YMCA of Lincoln, Nebraska, and EMT Corp.

A native of Lincoln, Nebraska, Breslow holds a Bachelor of Science in Education from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. He is also an experienced pilot with more than 48 years of flying experience.

Breslow has been married to his wife, Sonya, for more than 50 years. They have three daughters and five grandchildren.
