FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – President Nikos Christodoulides departed for the United States on Wednesday, aiming to promote Cyprus as a high-quality, reliable investment destination and to bolster bilateral relations with the U.S.

The week-long visit, which includes stops in New York, Houston, and Silicon Valley, focuses on securing investments in key sectors such as technology, energy, finance, and shipping.

In New York, Christodoulides is set to meet with representatives of leading financial institutions and investment funds.

He will emphasize Cyprus’ strategic location at the crossroads of Europe, the Middle East, and North Africa, as well as its status as a financial hub in the Eastern Mediterranean. The President will also participate in a major business conference, where he will showcase Cyprus’ strong economic recovery and investor-friendly environment. The country’s upgraded credit rating to the “A” category by major rating agencies reflects its fiscal stability, further enhancing its appeal to international investors.

The President’s itinerary includes a visit to Silicon Valley, where he will highlight Cyprus’ emergence as a growing hub for technology, startups, and innovation.

With its favorable tax framework, skilled workforce, expanding research infrastructure, and access to European markets, Cyprus has become an attractive destination for tech investors. Christodoulides plans to meet with tech leaders and promote Cyprus as an ideal base for businesses seeking to expand into new markets.

In Houston, the focus will shift to the energy sector, with discussions centering on Cyprus’ significant natural gas discoveries and its role in enhancing European energy security. The President will explore opportunities for collaboration with energy companies and international partners to further develop Cyprus’ energy infrastructure and maximize its regional potential.

The trip also highlights the strengthening of U.S.-Cyprus relations.

Over the past two years, the two nations have reached new levels of cooperation, underscored by agreements such as the U.S.-Cyprus Strategic Dialogue and Cyprus’ participation in U.S.-led defense and security programs.

Christodoulides is optimistic that deeper business collaboration with the U.S. will yield mutual benefits, fostering innovation, increasing investment flows, and offering American businesses a competitive gateway to European markets.

The President is accompanied by a high-level delegation, including Energy Minister Giorgos Papanastasiou, Government Spokesperson Konstantinos Letymbiotis, Deputy Ministers Irini Piki, Marina Hadjimanoli, and Nikodimos Damianou, and Central Bank Governor Christodoulos Patsalides. In Silicon Valley, the delegation will also include Chief Scientist Dimitris Skourides to focus on research and innovation opportunities.
