President Nikos Christodoulides will travel to New York on Sunday ahead of the high-level week of the United Nations General Assembly.
On the sidelines of the assembly, Christodoulides will hold key contacts on the Cyprus problem with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, briefing him on the progress made so far during his meetings with the Turkish Cypriot leader.
The Sept. 24 meeting with Guterres is also expected to address next steps in the process to resolve the Cyprus problem.
The president will also meet with the secretary-general’s personal envoy, Maria Angela Holguin, and is scheduled to address the 81st UN General Assembly on Sept. 23 at 7:30 p.m.
During his stay in New York, Christodoulides will hold additional meetings with heads of state or government, leaders of international organizations and multinational companies, as well as representatives of the Cypriot diaspora.
Christodoulides will travel to New York from Athens, where he heads Sunday afternoon to address an event organized by the Cyprus Union of Shipowners. The president of Greece is also expected to attend the event.
