Representatives of gas station owners, importers and consumers expect fuel prices to rise further, even as prices for gasoline, diesel and heating oil have already increased significantly.
Savvas Prokopiou, president of the Association of Gas Station Owners, said the state could take further targeted measures beyond cutting the special consumption tax, particularly to help vulnerable groups.
Marios Drousiotis, president of the Cyprus Consumers’ Association, stressed the need to subsidize heating oil and called on the finance and energy ministries to ensure that any subsidy goes exclusively to consumers rather than gas station owners.
