Cyprus, France sign declaration on space science cooperation

The Republic of Cyprus and France have signed a joint declaration establishing cooperation in the field of space science, according to comments from a Cypriot government official reported by the newspaper Alithia.

Nikodimos Damianou, Deputy Minister of Research, Innovation and Digital Policy, discussed the agreement while speaking about his contacts at the International Space Summit in Paris.

Expressing satisfaction with the declaration, Damianou said space capabilities are becoming increasingly central to understanding climate change, responding to natural disasters, strengthening connectivity and industrial capacity, protecting critical infrastructure, supporting innovation, and advancing defense capabilities, technological sovereignty and strategic autonomy.

Damianou said Cyprus has evolved in recent years from a country that merely uses space-based services into one playing a growing role within the European space ecosystem.

He added that the cooperation agreed with France covers the areas of Earth observation, space science and satellite communications.
