Turkey’s state-owned oil company TPAO has applied for a production licence for an oil discovery in the Black Sea, according to a notice published in the country’s Official Gazette.
The decision, issued by the General Directorate of Mining and Petroleum Affairs at the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources, said TPAO applied on September 16 for one petroleum production licence covering 56,774 hectares in the C26 map sheet.
The area lies within TPAO’s exploration licence for the C26, C27, D26 and D27 map sheets, located in the exclusive economic zone and continental shelf within maritime jurisdiction areas set out by bilateral delimitation agreements in the Black Sea.
The Official Gazette also carried a separate decision extending TPAO’s exploration licence for the F18-d3 map sheet on land in Tekirdag province, north-western Turkey. The licence, which had been due to expire on May 31 2026, will now run until May 31 2028.
The extension is intended to allow the hydrocarbon potential of the Tekirdag area to be assessed and brought into the national economy, the decision said.
