Overall gas consumption drops 25% year-on-year, with industry accounting for largest share of usage
Turkey’s natural gas imports fell 21.72% year-on-year in July to around 3.063 billion cubic metres, according to the Energy Market Regulatory Authority’s (EPDK) monthly Natural Gas Market Sector Report.
Of the total, 2.869 billion cubic metres arrived via pipeline, while 194 million cubic metres came through liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminals.
Azerbaijan was the largest source of pipeline gas in July, supplying 1.001 billion cubic metres, followed by Russia with 948 million cubic metres and Iran with 919 million cubic metres. All of Turkey’s LNG imports for the month, totalling 194 million cubic metres, came from Algeria.
Overall gas consumption in Turkey fell 25.22% year-on-year in July to around 2.648 billion cubic metres. The industrial sector accounted for 1.114 billion cubic metres of consumption, while the power generation and conversion sector used 770 million cubic metres. Household gas consumption reached 376 million cubic metres over the same period.
Turkey’s total natural gas stocks stood at 5.638 billion cubic metres at the end of July, of which 5.413 billion cubic metres was held in underground storage facilities and 225 million cubic metres at LNG terminals.
