Jean-Marie Le Pen has been described by French President Emmanuel Macron as “a historical figure.”
Le Pen was “a historic figure on the far right,” Macron said in a brief statement on Tuesday.
Macron added that he had sent his condolences to Le Pen’s family.
Macron also says that “history will judge” Le Pen’s role in French politics.
Le Pen died on Tuesday, aged 96.
