US President Donald Trump has signed an executive order to restrict gender reassignment surgeries among LGBTQ people under the age of 19.
Trump believes it is not US policy to fund, sponsor, promote, assist or support a child’s so-called “transition” from one gender to another.
“Today, medical professionals across the country are performing procedures that mutilate and sterilize an increasing number of impressionable children under false claims that adults can change a child’s gender through various irreversible medical procedures.
“This dangerous trend will be a ‘stain’ on the nation’s history and must end,” the order said .
During his first term as president, Trump banned transgender people from serving in the US military . Joe Biden lifted the ban when he was president in 2021.
Now, Trump has again ordered the Pentagon to review the rules for transgender people in the military.
