Egypt must introduce judicial reforms and release political prisoners, it emerged at Tuesday’s UN hearing on the human rights situation in the country.
Egypt has implemented reforms in the field of human rights. However, several countries pointed out that the authorities continue to crack down on political opposition.
Egypt was also urged to abolish the death penalty, improve prison conditions and ensure better protection of refugees’ rights.
During the routine hearing, 141 countries took the speaking list and were given only 50 seconds of speaking time each.
