The President noted that the Governance Program was presented in the context of transparency, efficiency and accountability. It constituted, he underlined, the social contract with the Cypriot people, on the basis of which institutional and social partners, political forces and, above all, citizens, change Cyprus.
The main objectives of the Program are:
– Ensuring the country’s development path, through a strong, resilient and competitive economy.
– The digital transformation of Cyprus and addressing the phenomena of bureaucracy and favoritism.
– The regaining, through reforms, of the relationship between institutions and citizens.
– Strengthening citizens’ sense of security.
Christodoulides listed, in his speech, a series of planned measures for 2025. Among them are:
– Tax transformation, aiming to increase the disposable income of households and support the growth of Cypriot businesses.
– Pension reform, to ensure decent pensions.
– The payment of the first repayment installment for the haircut depositors and security holders.
– The promotion of development projects, with a budget of almost one and a half billion euros.
– The implementation of a new plan to allocate land to communities at twenty-five percent of their value.
– The creation of a financial tool exclusively for farmers.
– The establishment of a new, more modern and fair teacher evaluation system.
– The introduction of sixty new electronic services and strengthening of the Digital Citizen platform.
– The upgrade of the “Andreas Papandreou” air base and the expansion of the “Evangelos Florakis” naval base.
– The voluntary conscription of women and the upgrading of the institution of reservists and national guards.
– Improving the Police’s response to 112 calls.
– Cyprus’ inclusion in the United States visa waiver program.
– Promoting regulations to address fan violence and
– The full utilization of the expanded meeting in March to create conditions for a solution to the Cyprus problem.
