FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – President Nikos Christodoulides announced Thursday that a riot unit from the Rapid Response Motorized Division (MMAD) will reinforce police operations in Larnaca beginning at 8 p.m., following a spate of robberies and assaults in the coastal city.
The emergency meeting included the police chief and Larnaca’s police director. Christodoulides later visited the Crime Investigation Department offices, stressing the need for swift action to prevent further incidents, particularly along the popular beachfront.
He said the issue had also been discussed with Larnaca’s mayor and the deputy minister of migration, as young foreign nationals were reportedly involved in many of the recent altercations.
Christodoulides called for expedited judicial proceedings in assault and robbery cases, urging courts not to delay trials for four or six months.
