Ersin Tatar, leader of breakaway northern Cyprus, has proposed to the Cypriot government in Nicosia to use the water that is being transported from Turkey – via a pipeline – to Kyrenia, in order to address its water shortage.

Speaking to the Turkish newspaper “Sabah”, he said that he made the offer approval of Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan. He said that he suggested to the Greek Cypriots, “to use Turkish water as water of peace”.

He noted that the biggest problem facing the Republic of Cyprus is the water shortage, stating that the Turkish side is open to cooperation, in a way that will benefit both peoples, in his words.

He even cited as an example the exploitation of energy resources in the Eastern Mediterranean, including water.
