1956: The French Military have rented the New Helvetia Hotel at Platres for a period of three months.
The hotel will be used for the accommodation of French Army holidaymakers during the summer.
There are still about 800 French troops stationed at a camp situated at the end of the Akrotiri Peninsula, near the RAF base.
