Pope Francis, 88, has been hospitalized in Rome for the past week with double-sided pneumonia.
On Friday, his doctor held a press conference, stating that the pope was in better shape, having gotten out of bed and eaten breakfast. They assured that his life was out of danger, although his condition remained critical.
However, the situation took a turn for the worse on Saturday.
The Vatican reported that Pope Francis experienced an asthma-like attack in the morning and received a blood transfusion due to low platelet counts.
Throughout his tenure, Pope Francis has faced several health challenges.
In addition to his current battle with pneumonia, he has a history of lung problems, having had part of one lung removed during his youth due to an infection.
Despite these health issues, he has remained active and engaged in his duties as the head of the Catholic Church.
