FLASH: CONSERVATIVE CDU/CSU HAS WON GERMAN FEDERAL ELECTION — PRELIMINARY RESULTS

Germany’s conservative bloc, consisting of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) and the Christian Social Union (CSU), has taken the lead in the 2025 federal election, according to preliminary results announced by the German public broadcaster ARD on Sunday evening.
As per ARD’s latest vote counts, the CDU/CSU has secured 28.5 percent of the vote, followed by the Alternative for Germany (AfD) with 20.6 percent, and the Social Democratic Party (SPD) with 16.5 percent.
The Greens came in fourth with 11.8 percent, while Die Linke garnered 8.7 percent. The Free Democratic Party (FDP) and Sahra Wagenknecht Alliance (BSW) are projected to receive 4.4 percent and 4.9 percent, respectively.
