Real Madrid remains level on points with FC Barcelona at the top of La Liga after a 2-0 win at home to Girona on Sunday. Luka Modric scored the opening goal in the 40th minute with a spectacular volley.
Madrid, without Jude Bellingham, still created numerous chances, with Thibaut Courtois denying Arnaut Danjuma. Vinicius Jr. sealed the win in the closing minutes with a pass from Kylian Mbappe, who had been frustrated by Girona goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga.
Alvaro Rubio’s return as Real Valladolid head coach ended in a crushing 7-1 defeat to Athletic Bilbao. Mikel Jauregizar, Nico Williams, Maroan Sannadi, and Oihan Sancet all scored, with Nico adding a second and Gorka Guruzeta and Inaki Williams also finding the net. Mamadou Sylla scored for Valladolid.
Isco scored twice as Real Betis won 2-1 away to Getafe, despite Antony’s late red card. Arsen Zakharyan, Take Kubo, and Jon Olasagasti scored as Real Sociedad won 3-0 at home to Leganes.
On Saturday, substitutes Dani Olmo and Ferran Torres scored in Barcelona’s 2-0 win over Las Palmas. Atletico Madrid won 3-0 in Valencia, with Julian Alvarez scoring twice and Angel Correa adding a third. Villarreal’s Ayoze Perez scored in a 1-0 win over Rayo Vallecano.
Espanyol moved away from the bottom three with a 1-0 win against Alaves, thanks to Fernando Calero’s late header. Iago Aspas’ penalty saw Celta Vigo win 1-0 against Osasuna on Friday night.
