Greece: Seismic activity declines in Santorini-Amorgos zone

Seismic activity in the Santorini-Amorgos zone is gradually declining, according to the Seismology Laboratory at the University of Athens.

Since the beginning of seismic activity until February 22, 2025, over 23,500 earthquakes have been detected, with more than 20,000 having magnitudes of M³1.0 or higher.

Recent data shows that on February 20, over 270 earthquakes were recorded, with the strongest being a magnitude of 3.7.

On February 21, over 280 earthquakes were recorded, with the strongest at a magnitude of 3.5.

On February 22, over 300 earthquakes were recorded, with the strongest at a magnitude of 3.3. On February 23, 61 earthquakes were recorded, with the strongest at a magnitude of 3.6.

The trend indicates a decrease in both the number of daily earthquakes and their maximum magnitudes.
