Russian and US delegations are set to meet in Istanbul on Thursday to discuss the restoration of diplomatic work between the two countries, according to Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.
This meeting comes as part of ongoing negotiations to end the conflict in Ukraine.
Moscow has not had an ambassador in Washington since the previous envoy, Anatoly Antonov, left his post in October last year.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has stated that a group will work to restore diplomatic relations as part of the broader efforts to resolve the Ukraine conflict.
