A report in the local press suggests that irregular migrants and asylum seekers without residence permits in Cyprus are costing state hospitals an estimated €45 million a year.
The State Health Services Organization reportedly receives no reimbursement for these expenses, according to Phileleftheros.
The report highlights that individuals not entitled to the general health system, including undocumented foreign nationals and non-European tourists, often access emergency services but evade payment, as they cannot be traced after treatment.
