Cyprus Honors Fallen Police Officers and Firefighters

FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – March 7 marks the International Day of Remembrance and Honor for Police Officers and Firefighters Who Have Fallen in the Line of Duty, a day designated by the General Secretariat of Interpol.

In Cyprus, this occasion was observed with a solemn ceremony to pay tribute to the brave individuals who lost their lives while serving the nation.

Held at Police Headquarters, the event was attended by Justice and Public Order Minister Marios Hartsiotis, Deputy Chief of Police Panikos Stavrou, and Fire Chief Andreas Christofi. They laid wreaths at the Memorial of Fallen Police and Firefighters as a gesture of respect and gratitude for the sacrifices made by these heroes.

Minister Hartsiotis, addressing the ceremony, highlighted the significance of the ultimate sacrifice made by these officers and firefighters, noting that their commitment to protecting human life and upholding justice must be remembered and honored.

Deputy Chief Stavrou expressed heartfelt thanks to the fallen colleagues for their dedication to their oath and mission, while also acknowledging the efforts of active members of the police force.

Similarly, Fire Chief Christofi praised the 60 fallen and missing police officers and six firefighters for their selflessness, stating that they dedicated their lives to the service of their fellow citizens.
