FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – The Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Cyprus has voiced deep concern over recent violent clashes and civilian casualties in Syria’s coastal regions.
In a post on the social media platform X, the ministry called for a peaceful and inclusive political transition, urging swift de-escalation.
The statement emphasized the importance of calm, restraint, and stability as key priorities.
Reports indicate that operations by security forces of the de facto government and allied groups have resulted in the deaths of hundreds of Alevis.
According to recent figures, 532 Alawites, many with ties to Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, were killed during purges and clashes in western Syria.
Since hostilities erupted last Thursday, a total of 745 deaths have been reported, including 213 members of security forces and allied personnel.
