FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – The Nicosia Permanent Criminal Court has postponed the trial of Simon Aykut, accused of property usurpation in the occupied areas, to April 9, 2025.

The delay was granted to allow the defense additional time to review new evidence submitted by the Land Registry.

During today’s session, the defense requested the adjournment to examine the material, and the prosecution concurred, highlighting its importance and noting that new witnesses may be added as a result.

Aykut remains in custody until the trial resumes.

Simon Aykut, a 74-year-old Israeli property developer and director of the Afik Group, faces charges related to the illegal development and sale of properties on Greek Cypriot land in the occupied areas of Cyprus.

Arrested in 2024 while crossing from northern Cyprus to the Republic, Aykut is accused of fraudulent dealings, including money laundering and the usurpation of immovable property worth millions of euros.
