FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – Greek Cypriot leader Nikos Christodoulides and Turkish Cypriot leader Ersin Tatar met Wednesday to follow up on the Geneva informal broader format meeting under the United Nations Secretary-General’s auspices.

The leaders agreed to form a Technical Committee on Youth, with 12 members from each side under the age of 35 and a focus on gender parity. They plan to submit the member list to the U.N. by April 15.

Discussions on demining will take place between the Greek Cypriot negotiator and Turkish Cypriot special representative, with plans to exchange information on suspected hazardous areas proportionally.

The Technical Committee on Environment will address issues related to climate change and mining impacts, while the Technical Committee on Cultural Heritage will work on cemetery restoration.

The leaders had constructive talks on crossing points and solar energy in the buffer zone, tasking representatives to seek mutually acceptable solutions. They agreed to reconvene in the near future.
