FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced Thursday that the European Union will pause its planned tariff response against the United States for 90 days, matching the duration of President Donald Trump’s postponement of U.S. tariffs.
The EU had previously prepared to impose a 25 percent tariff on various U.S. goods starting mid-April.
Von der Leyen described Trump’s decision as a positive step toward stabilizing the global economy.
“We want to give negotiations a chance,” von der Leyen said in a statement. “If negotiations do not lead to progress, countermeasures will be implemented.”
