President Donald Trump is considering offering a dividend to U.S. citizens using revenue generated from tariffs on imported goods.
Speaking after returning from a visit to his golf club in New Jersey, Trump said the proposed payments would be directed toward middle- and lower-income households. He described the concept as a potential payout or benefit tied directly to the tariffs imposed on foreign products.
The proposal follows recent changes to tariff rates, with Norway now facing a 15 percent levy on exports to the United States—similar to rates applied to EU member states, Liechtenstein and Iceland. Other countries, including Switzerland, India and South Africa, have been assigned higher rates.
