A 64‑year‑old man from the Nicosia district was arrested in Larnaca for the illegal possession of firecrackers, police said.
Officers from the Larnaca Crime Prevention Unit stopped the man’s vehicle for inspection on a road in the district.
During a search, police found two packages containing a total of 60 firecrackers.
He was taken to the Oroklini Police Station, where he was questioned, charged in writing and released pending a court summons.
The firecrackers were seized as evidence.
Cyprus Police said they remain on high alert ahead of the Easter holidays.
This year’s Holy Week campaign focuses on combating the illegal trade and use of firecrackers, as well as road safety across the island.
