FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – Armed groups launched attacks on four villages in Benue state, central Nigeria, killing at least 23 people, a Red Cross representative has said.
The violence, which erupted late Saturday, is the latest in a series of clashes between farmers and nomadic herders in the region, where tensions over land use and resources have led to frequent unrest.
“Reports from the field have confirmed that at least 23 people have been killed in the attacks,” said Anthony Abah, the Red Cross’s Benue secretary. “In addition, several people have been injured.”
A police spokeswoman said she was not aware of the attacks.
