White South Africans Depart for U.S. Under Refugee Program

 A group of 49 white South Africans departed for the United States on Sunday under a refugee program announced by President Donald Trump in February.

The group, which includes families and small children from the Afrikaner minority, chartered a plane and is expected to land in Washington on Monday morning, according to a spokesperson for South Africa’s transport department.

They are the first to take advantage of the initiative, which grants them refugee status in the U.S.
