ANKARA — Turkey experienced its fourth-hottest August in the past 55 years, according to data compiled from the Turkish State Meteorological Service.
The nationwide average temperature for August reached 26.5 degrees Celsius, exceeding the 1991–2020 seasonal norm of 25.1 degrees by 1.4 degrees.
Based on long-term records from 1971 to 2025, last month ranked as the fourth warmest August on record.
Temperatures across much of the Marmara region, Northern Aegean, and coastal areas including Bodrum, Muğla, Datça, Dalaman, and Antalya remained near seasonal norms.
Similar conditions were observed in parts of Central Anatolia and the Black Sea region. However, most other areas recorded above-average temperatures.
The lowest temperature of the month was 3.8 degrees in Ardahan, while the highest soared to 47.7 degrees in Kozan, a district of Adana.
Previous Augusts with above-normal temperatures were recorded in 2006, 2010, and 2023. With last month’s spike, 2025 joins the ranks of the hottest summers in recent Turkish history.
