Local authorities have expressed serious concern over a new incident involving unauthorized vehicle access into the protected Larnaca Salt Lake wetland.
According to a joint statement by the Municipality of Larnaca, the Department of Environment, and the Game and Fauna Service, two cars were found immobilized within the ecologically sensitive area.
The Game and Fauna Service has issued a €2,000 administrative fine for environmental interference and damaging activity that degraded the habitat.
Officials reiterated the importance of safeguarding the wetland, which is home to migratory birds and rare species, and warned of stricter enforcement going forward.
