FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE — The Department of Postal Services has issued a public warning about a surge in fraudulent SMS messages falsely claiming to be from Cyprus Post.
The messages inform recipients that a package could not be delivered due to incorrect address details and urge them to click a link to update their information or call a specific number.
Officials say the messages are part of a phishing scam designed to steal personal and financial data. The links provided do not lead to the official Cyprus Post website or the JCCsmart online payment platform, which is used for legitimate transactions.
“The sender may appear convincing, but citizens should remain vigilant,” the department said in a statement. “Do not follow any links or provide sensitive information.”
The Cyprus Police Cybercrime Unit has also received reports of similar scams via email and social media. Authorities urge the public to verify delivery issues directly with the courier or seller and to report suspicious messages to law enforcement.
