Cyprus Marks 51 Years Since Second Turkish Invasion Amid Calls for Return of Occupied Towns

FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE — Cyprus on Thursday marked the 51st anniversary of the second phase of the 1974 Turkish invasion, with memorial events and official statements reflecting continued grief over the loss of occupied territories.

President Nikos Christodoulides reaffirmed the government’s stance, declaring, “We will not concede an inch of land.”

In a statement marking the anniversary of the occupation of Kythrea, the local municipality said, “Return remains an unwavering and unchanging goal.”
