Borsa Istanbul’s benchmark BIST 100 index closed at a record high Thursday, edging up 0.04% to finish at 12,028.84 points.
The index rose 5.06 points from the previous close, with total trading volume reaching 167.6 billion lira.
The banking index fell 2.37%, while the holding index gained 0.41%. Among sector indices, trade posted the strongest performance with a 1.60% increase, while textiles and leather recorded the steepest decline at 3.20%.
Global markets focused on U.S. employment data following geopolitical developments worldwide. Domestically, the BIST 100 touched an intraday high of 12,124.58, setting a fresh record before paring gains as selling in banking stocks intensified. The index still managed to end the day slightly above Wednesday’s close.
Analysts said Friday’s agenda includes Turkey’s real return rates for financial investment instruments and weekly money and banking statistics, while investors abroad will watch eurozone consumer and producer inflation and the U.S. trade balance. Technically, they noted resistance levels at 12,100 and 12,200 points, with support at 11,900 and 11,800.
