FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen have held discussions on economic and defense cooperation, focusing on the challenges posed by U.S. trade actions.
The leaders addressed the imposition of tariffs and the threat of further global trade measures by the United States.
They emphasized the need to deepen economic ties and enhance security for citizens on both sides of the Atlantic.
Carney outlined his strategy to counter tariffs targeting Canada, including those affecting the auto, steel, and aluminum industries.
Both leaders also welcomed strengthening Canada-EU defense and security collaboration to support transatlantic stability.
Carney has engaged with leaders from the UK, Germany, and Mexico this month to coordinate responses to the ongoing tariff disputes with the United States.
