CDU leader Friedrich Merz, who is the favorite to become the new Prime Minister of Germany, rules out any cooperation with the far right in a new government.
Merz maintains this during a television debate against his rival Olaf Scholz, who is fighting for re-election on February 23.
There have been large demonstrations in Germany after Merz appeared to break with the long-standing practice of not cooperating with the far right by seeking support from the AfD for immigration reforms.
