FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – Church bells rang out across Norway on Thursday in a nationwide show of solidarity with civilians suffering in Gaza, the Church of Norway said.
More than 250 churches participated in the coordinated action, which took place at 3 p.m. local time.
The initiative was led by the Bishops’ Conference and included all cathedrals, with additional churches invited to join.
“This was a cry for attention and support for all those who are suffering in Gaza, but also a call for prayer and action,” said Bishop Olav Fykse Tveit, president of the Church of Norway, in a statement.
Church leaders in Sweden and Finland also took part in the initiative, ringing bells and encouraging congregations to pray for peace in the region.
The action followed growing concern over the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, where tens of thousands of civilians have been killed since the conflict escalated in late 2023.
