Dimis Mavropoulos, 76, dies after vessels are driven onto rocks near Agioi Anargyroi; daughter and her partner among injured
A prominent Cypriot businessman has died after a storm battering the south coast of Cyprus drove three boats onto rocks near Cape Greco, injuring two other people.
According to a report by SigmaLive, the incident occurred on Saturday afternoon in the Agioi Anargyroi sea area of Cape Greco, when severe sea conditions caused the three vessels to be dashed against the rocks. A search and rescue operation was launched in response.
The man who died has been named as Dimis Mavropoulos, a well-known 76-year-old businessman from Limassol. His daughter and her partner, who were on board with him, were injured and taken to hospital, where they are being treated at Famagusta General Hospital.
Authorities have said the severe sea conditions in the area were responsible for driving the boats onto the rocks, and an investigation into the incident is continuing.
