FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – Cyprus is positioning itself as a hub for medical innovation and policy dialogue, Health Minister Michael Damianos said this week at the 5th Cyprus International Medical Forum in Nicosia.
Damianos praised the forum’s role in fostering collaboration and sharing advancements in healthcare.
The event, organized by Codavi International, brings together experts to discuss topics such as pharmacy and medicine, reproductive health, cybersecurity in healthcare, and anti-aging treatments.
Cyprus ranks highly in healthcare quality, officials noted, citing the country’s General Healthcare System (GHS), launched in 2019, which provides accessible primary care and universal coverage for residents.
The state healthcare provider OKYPY operates nine hospitals and 37 health centers, with ongoing reforms aimed at improving efficiency. Private hospitals, many affiliated with the GHS, also play a significant role in the country’s medical landscape.
Education in medicine and nursing is expanding, with Cypriot universities attracting international students. The country is also implementing health-related reforms under the European Recovery and Resilience Plan, with completion targeted for 2026.
Damianos emphasized the importance of global collaboration in healthcare, calling for increased partnerships through bilateral, regional, and multilateral initiatives.
