Cyprus is bracing for an intense wildfire season as drought and high temperatures heighten risks.
In a recent interview, Fire Chief Nikos Logginos warned that this summer is expected to be particularly difficult.
However, he assured that the Fire Service, in coordination with other agencies, is fully prepared at an operational level. Trainees from the fire academy are also expected to be deployed to assist in firefighting efforts.
Regarding aerial firefighting capabilities, Logginos noted that the situation has improved this year, with the state reinforcing its aircraft squadron, now under the National Guard.
Authorities continue to urge the public to remain vigilant and report any signs of fire immediately.
